200,000 high school students abandon College Entrance Exam and opt for studying abroad.

The 3rd Secondary School Principals Conference hosted by the Ministry of Education took place in Hangzhou between 6 and 8 November. Around 500 principals held discussions, exploring the approaches to characterizing the development of secondary education and fostering innovative talents.

According to the reliable sources, the number of low-age students studying abroad has peaked this year and the number of students pursuing senior high school education abroad has increased by 20-30 per cent compared to last year. In addition, the number of high school graduates sitting the foreign college entrance tests has grown by more than 10 percent. In line with the data unveiled by the Ministry of Education, the number of students giving up the College Entrance Exam was 840000 in 2009, and is estimated close to 1 million this year, 21.1% of whom are the ones who go for studying abroad.
