  完整范文:

Nowadays, an increasing number of children spend their spare time in watching TV programs. Some people take a view that watching TV is harmful to children’s intellectual and emotional development, while some others hold a different point of view. In this essay, I will discuss both sides regarding this issue and illustrate my suggestion.

On one hand, there is no doubt that if children spent too much time on television, then it would exert some negative influences as follows on the young TV viewers. Firstly, a recent survey conducted byChinaDaily reveals that violent footprints in children programs are much more than that in programs which cater to adults. It is absolutely hazardous for children when we consider the fact that many under-aged viewers tend to be sequacious and immature. As a consequence, they can hardly distinguish virtue from evil. So, the unfavorable contents in TV programs are likely to mislead them, which results in a fact that a considerable number of juvenile offenders went astray, because they follow the violent footprints blindly, lacking self-control and self-discipline. Secondly, I advocate that they would be well-advised to spend more time in sporting activities which are beneficial to their physical development. In contrast, television is scientifically radio-active. Therefore, staring at TV screen for hours surely endangers their eyesight and physical posture as well.

On the other hand, some people argue that it is of value for children to watch TV every day. It is mainly because on no account should we ignore the point that the amount of information conveyed by TV programs, especially by documentaries, is much more than that by paper books. Thus, television can be regarded as an ideal platform for the expansion of their horizons. Also, the programs can kindle their interest in discovering unknown world. What is more, TV-viewing is not entirely useless for children, because there is no denying that animations are widely considered a good way to stimulate the viewers’ imagination and enhance language skills. Most importantly, teenagers have suffered too much academic stress in this competitive society, so TV viewing might as well be looked as a good approach to relaxing their bodies and easing their minds.

Personally, it is reasonable to harbor a view that children can spend some time on TV programs, as long as we pay attention to the following problems. To begin with, parents are supposed to teach their children how to distinguish right from wrong, preventing them from heading for crimes by imitating violent plots blindly. Moreover, academic study should still be put in the first place by young students who like watching TV. Overall, TV viewing is merely a kind of teaching aid and a form of recreation, rather than the mainstream that occupies children all free time.
